Is the “hot hand” phenomenon real?

Liu2018hot showed that hot streaks exist in multiple domains (artists, film directors, and scientists) and they can be explained as the “exploitation” phase of the career (see also Exploration and exploitation). Garimella2019hot shows that the “impact” of a user on social media tends to cluster and exhibit “hot streaks”.

The results of these studies suggest that hot streaks can exist when the “trials” resemble the Exploration and exploitation process. When you exploit, the hot streak happens.
